We worship in many ways and with many people. Come learn the songs we sing for our traditional or contemporary services. Don't forget to check out our pastor's latest sermons as well.
We have a variety of ministries for adult, youth, and child. Please come and see the many ways to experience our community.
The idea of selfless service is an important concept in most religions. Because God is perceived as residing in the heart of others, serving other people is considered an essential devotional practice.
Food Bank – FUMC has 2 times we volunteer each month. The times are normally at 9am on the 2nd Wednesday of each month and then again at 6pm on the 2nd Thursday of each month. The Food Bank of North LA is a great resource to our community and to North LA. We spend 1 hour or less at the Food Bank pushing a buggy and filling boxes with much needed staples for the elderly and handicapped residents in our community. Our youth enjoy the time they volunteer and several members take their children and grandchildren. What better way to show a child how to volunteer!
Refuge of Hope – When the month has 5 Mondays; we have two groups of volunteers which prepare a meal for 100 to 150 people who meet at this shelter every day. One group prepares the meal and the next group takes the food to the shelter and serve the meal. Many of our volunteers use their lunch hour to go over to the shelter on Monday and serve people who are less fortunate.
Family Promise – Family Promise is an outreach to parent(s) who are homeless with children. Ouachita Parish has over 700 children who are considered homeless. In 2010, our church family joined this nonprofit organization in order to serve the Lord. We take these families in on a Sunday evening and for 7 nights and 7 evenings; we have evening meals, breakfast snacks, and sack lunches for our families. We then transform our Sunday School classes into bedrooms for these families. We have church members who spend the night and host for the night…Great Opportunities to Serve HIM!!!
Women’s Group – We have a group of women who come together to make Easter Baskets for CASA and then in the fall put together Thanksgiving Boxes together for families in need. We named this group “I Love Lucie’s” to honor a special friend, Lucie Krestensen. We have also met the needs of others when emergencies arise.
